Core Data Science:
- Identify opportunities in existing processes
- Attack problems leveraging statistical data modeling and optimization tools
- Provide solutions to business problems using data analysis, data mining and machine learning techniques and statistics
Evaluation of Technology and Engagement in R&D:
- Understand and evaluate new commerce technologies that rely on data science, distributed computing, and big data, to determine effectiveness of the solution and feasibility of integration with Target’s current digital commerce platforms
- Enhance and evolve approaches to key focus areas including personalization, search, marketing insights, conversion analysis
- Work both with internal Target teams and external technology companies, ranging from start-ups to the biggest tech companies in the world
- Bring to life new solutions, build consensus and win senior level leadership buy-in for your solutions
- Drive the creation of new standards and best practices with a focus on emerging technologies
Communication to Internal, External and to Sr. Leadership Partners:
- Communicate insights and recommend areas for further data discovery
- Ability to communicate complex concepts in easy to understand terminology
- Effective communication skills across multiple levels of the organization, including management and cross functional teams
Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- M.S. or PhD in a relevant technical field or 5+ years of experience in a relevant role with hands-on experience implementing large scale data analytics solutions
- Fluency with statistical and machine learning algorithms
- Experience with Natural Language Processing
- Experience working with databases (SQL, MongoDB, etc) and large data sets (TB scale)
- Hands-on programming expertise in at least one of Python, Java, Scala
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A strong passion for empirical research and for answering hard questions with data
Desired Requirements:
- Experience in digital commerce at a hyper scale
- Hadoop/Mahout expertise
- Expertise with commerce technologies such as IBM WebSphere Commerce, Omniture, Open Source frameworks
- Ability to thrive in quick paced, creative and experimental environments
